Customs intercept contraband goods concealed in truck

The Compliance Team of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Idi-Iroko axis, Ogun state on Friday, said it intercepted 100 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products concealed in a truck conveying parcels.

According to a statement made available by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, the team headed by an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Shittu Ajibola, made the seizure, which was concealed in an Izuzu Mini-truck, suspected to be owned by a courier company.

The statement said, “The team leader ascribed his latest exploit to the team’s strict adherence and comprehension of the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs.”

Ajibola said that nobody would have thought that a vehicle that ought to be used to ferry parcels and other materials, could be used to smuggle products.

According to him, this fueled suspicion that it may not be the first time such illicit transaction will take place, adding that the smugglers used parcels to conceal the smuggled products which made it symbolic.

He said the team would use every resource at its disposal to fight smuggling in line with the mission and vision of the NCS management.
