THREE persons were yesterday confirmed dead and several  others injured during a Tuesday night clash between two rival cults on Ondo road in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Vanguard gathered that the three were killed at different places within the metropolis in the renewed battle for supremacy between Aiye and Eiye cults which had begun about a year ago.

It was learnt that two of the deceased were killed directly opposite Damola’s car wash on Ondo road, while the corpse of the third person was seen at Wasinmi primary school, Imepe area of Ijebu Ode.

Vanguard gathered that several people were hit by gunshot including an unidentified woman said to be selling local herb concoction in the area.

They were said to have been taken to undisclosed hospitals within and outside the town for treatment.

One of the deceased was identified as Wasiu, a member of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycles and Riders Association of Nigeria, ACOMORAN.

Narrating how the incident occurred, an eyewitness claimed the fracas started about 8.35pm Tuesday night.

According to the source, “only three were killed, but over 13 persons were hit by gunshots.  But some people told us that those wounded were more than 13.  Those I saw were 13.”

Some residents in the area said the crisis emanated at the motor park in Ijebu Ode.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state command, Muyiwa Adejobi, told Vanguard that no fewer than 20 people had been arrested.

He said that the two rival groups were marking their one year of losing members to violence, noting that more arrest were underway as police tried to restore peace in the area.
