A High Court sitting in Otu-Jeremi, Delta State, has sentenced three persons, Moses Etisi, Sunday Shebobo and Moses Pender Otobrise to death.
They were found guilty of the charge of armed robbery and murder brought against them.
However, the fourth accused Daniel Ejesemehpia was discharged and acquitted for want of sufficient evidence linking him to the crime.
The prosecutor had told the court that the four persons robbed one Sunday Ibru Oduaran of his brand new unregistered Simba motorcycle and also killed him when he resisted the attack.
According to him, the crime took place around July 2008 at Owodokpokpo Olomo within the Otu-Jeremi Judicial Division, an offence punishable under Sections 319 and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11, Volume 14, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
He added that the accused persons were arrested with the aid of a vigilance group in the area after the bandits attempted to sell the said motorcycle which was already dismantled to avoid suspicion.
He further told the court that the gang leader was discovered to be the son of the vigilance Chairman who ordered his arrest in spite of their biological link as according to the chairman, he had always been suspicious of his son because of his expensive lifestyle and high taste.
The accused persons were said to have admitted to the crime in their confessional statements to the police.
The court found the three robbers guilty of murder and armed robbery and slammed them with the death verdict.
