An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that an accused, Mudasiru Oyeniyi, 30, be remanded in prison for allegedly setting his room mate on fire.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Isiaka Ajadi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 30 at about 12.35 a.m. at Arikalamu area of Osogbo.
Ajadi said the accused, with the intent to kill, poured petrol on one Wasiu Kareem and then set him on fire while the latter was asleep.
He said the incident caused severe injuries and burns on the victim which led to his being hospitalised at the intensive care unit of LAUTECH Hospital, Osogbo
Ajadi said the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Section 320(2) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003
The accused, who had no counsel, pleaded guilty to the charge when read out to him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesha prison till the presentation of facts on the matter by the police.
The case was adjourned to Oct. 22 for presentation of facts. (NAN)
