Court remands four spiritualists in prison custody over alleged N5m fraud

An Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded four men believed to be spiritualists in prison custody for allegedly defrauding a man of N5 million.

The Chief Magistrate, Anthony Araba, ordered that the accused should remain in Ibara Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused are Hammed Yusuf, 49; Suraju Akinwande, 47; Michael Sokanlu, 40; and Kazeem Olayiwola, 45.

The men, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud.

The prosecutor, ASP Paul Etusi said the accused committed the offences sometime in June 2013 at Oke-Ilewo in the Central Business District of Ogun capital.

He alleged that the accused collected N5 million from one Mr Rasak Adebolu on the pretext of delivering him from “spiritual attack.’’

Etusi noted that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The case has been adjourned to Feb. 11 for further hearing. (NAN)
