A 57-year-old man, Taiwo Ajayi, charged with rape at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court was on Friday remanded in prison by the court.
The remand order was given by the Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, to give the court time to seek legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The police prosecutor, Insp. Adebayo Ajiboye, had told the court that he had duplicated the file on the case and sent a copy to the DPP for advice.
Mentioning the case, Okoro told the court that Ajayi raped a12-year-old girl at St. Mary’s Girls’ Secondary School, Ikole-Ekiti.
He alleged that the offence was committed on March 18, 2014, adding that the forceful act led to admission of the girl in hospital.
He said that the offence contravened Section 31(1)(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap C7 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
No plea was taken from the accused.
After ordering that the accused be remanded in prison pending the receipt of advice from the DPP, the magistrate adjourned the case until June 6. (NAN)
