A sitting Magistrate Court in Minna, the capital of Niger State has remanded a 20-year-old man, Usman Bege, for slaughtering his 18-year-old wife, Hauwa, following a misunderstanding which occurred between the couple.
Presiding over the case, the Chief Magistrate of Magistrate Court III in Minna, Niger State, Hajiya Bilkisu Gambo Yusuf said the suspect should be remanded.
The accused, however, pleaded guilty after the charges were read to him by the Chief Magistrate, telling the court that “I cut her with a knife”.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on February 20, at Iri village in Rijau Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased was reported to have moved to her parent’s house after a misunderstanding with her husband.
Bege was alleged to have sneaked into his in-law’s house when they were all sleeping and slaughtered his wife.
It was reported that the accused was arrested by the villagers while attempting to escape and handed over to the village head, Alhaji Usman, who later reported the matter to the police.
The Magistrate adjourned the case to July 26.
