Court orders 24-year-old to be remanded in prison for raping girlfriend to death

One Michael Oyejide, 24, who was alleged to have raped his 18 year old girlfriend to death, was on Thursday ordered by a Magistrate court in Abeokuta, Ogun State to be remanded at Ibara prison.

According to the Magistrate, Mr Martins Akinyemi, the accused will be remanded in prison custody pending a legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution.

The accused who resides in Ijeja area of Abeokuta was arraigned on a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, rape and murder.

The police Prosecutor, Cpl. Moshood Hammed, while testifying before the court said Oyejide connived with his friend now at large at about 11pm on January 8 at Ijeja area of Abeokuta committed the evil act.

Hammed further disclosed that Oyejide and his friend allegedly committed the crime after his birthday party.

“At about 8.00p.m., Oyejide, aka MI, celebrated his birthday at Adigbe and some ladies were invited.

“Later in the night, the accused and one other got the victim, who is also a friend drunk.

“The accused and his friend took the victim to his house at Ijeja and they raped her to death,” Hammed noted.

On seeing the damage done the suspect rushed the deceased to the hospital under the guise of a sympathiser where she was pronounced dead.

The prosecutor noted, “The management of the hospital reported the case to the police, which led to Oyejide’s arrest.”

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed contravened Sections 516, 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mr Martins Akinyemi adjourned the case till the 5th of June as Oyejide’s plea was not granted by the court
