A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has ordered the detention of one Nze Edozie Kenneth for allegedly parading himself as an official of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other offences Commission, ICPC.
The trial Judge, Justice Lambo Akanbi gave the order after the accused pleaded not guilty to a six count charge read to him.
Kenneth is being accused of impersonation with intent to defraud members of the public.
Defence counsel, Ugwu Nnaji applied for a motion on bail on the premise that the accused has a deteriorating health issue.
Meanwhile, ICPC prosecution, Ayada Akogwu said that the accused person had put the name of the ICPC in disrepute.
However, the Head of ICPC in Rivers State, Ndu Okparandaa told DailyPost that the arrest of Nze Edozie Kenneth will serve as a deterrent to other people who are parading themselves as officials of the Commission.
“The case you witnessed is as a result of a petition from a good Nigerian against an impersonator.
“We swung into action and investigated the suspect. Our investigation showed that the person was an impersonator of the ICPC.
“Now, to the people out there who try to impersonate the ICPC in the name of fraud or making money from the unsuspecting members of the public, we hope this will serve as a deterrent,” Ndu warned.
Justice Lambo Akanbi adjourned the case till November 17 to take the bail application.
