Couple, four others docked for allegedly beating FRSC officers in Ondo

A couple, identified as Tope and Taiwo Ajayi, and four other persons were arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, today for allegedly beating up men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

Other accomplices in the incident are Oluwaseun Ogunbiyi, Olusola Ebenezer, Busayo Ayodele, and Sumala Ojo.

According to the prosecutor, all the accused were charged on a five-count charge punishable under Section 516(A) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Vol 1, laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

It was gathered that the FRSC men, Imoru Ayotunde, Adewuyi James and Akore Isiaka, were on patrol duty. In the process, they stopped and attempted to impound Mrs Ajayi’s vehicle for allegedly committing traffic offences.

Furious about the development, the woman reportedly called her husband, Tope Ajayi and informed him about her encounter with FRSC men. The husband was said to have rushed down and forcefully drove one the FRSC men, Akorede Isiaka, away inside the car to where he (Tope) and other accomplices pounced on him mercilessly.

The two other men on duty were also got the beating of their lives while trying to rescue their colleague from the hands of the attackers. The trio, as a result of the beating sustained varied injuries all over their bodies while their uniforms were also torn by their attackers.

While all the accused were arrested, Ajayi’s husband escaped arrest as he was said to be on hospital bed , but a source in the Ondo Sector Command of the FRSC assured that he would definitely be arrested and prosecuted being discharged from the hospital.

However, the Magistrate, Olubukola Kuye granted the bail application of the accused with N100,000 alongside individual surety.
