Corruption allegation: SNG calls for arrest of NNPC chiefs, others

The Save Nigeria Group (SNG), led by the former vice-presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Thursday, called for the arrest and prosecution of the top government functionaries and the officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over their alleged involvement in corrupt practices rocking the oil and gas sector of the economy.

Supporting the resolution of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on a nationwide strike on Monday, Pastor Bakare, while briefing newsmen, said the group had aligned itself with the position of the organised labour.

Calling on the government to probe the issue of corruption in the oil and gas sector, the SNC leader said this became imperative because of the the prevalent economic situation in the country.

Bakare said it was sad to note that nobody knew how much the country was making from the sector, asking why the beneficiaries of the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) decided to turn around their pockets.

Demanding the arrest and prosecution of those found to be involved in the alleged sharp practices, the SNG called for the publication of the beneficiaries of the yearly budget for the TAM.

He said: “Now that the beneficiaries of the oil subsidy are known; we demand their immediate prosecution, as well as that of the officials of NNPC, CBN Governor and the Minister of Finance for their complicity in paying for refined petroleum products not consumed.”

Also, he called for the arrest of the police officer alleged to be responsible for the death of one of the protesters in Ilorin.
