Convicts opt to be imprisoned rather than pay N5,000 fine

One Musa Shuaibu and two others have opted for three weeks imprisonment after confessing to stealing some armoured cables belonging to the Rivers State Ministry of Power in Trans Amadi Layout, Port Harcourt.

The suspects, who pleaded guilty to the charges, were sentenced to three weeks in prison or an option of five thousand naira (N5000).

The Chief Magistrate, Promise Ironanya also ruled that if paid, the fine should be given to the Rivers State Ministry of Power.

Interestingly, the three suspects opted to be imprisoned for three weeks.

The convicts told DAILY POST in confidence that they opted to go to prison due to financial constraints.
