Car wash attendant bags six-month prison term for stealing iPad

Magistrate Zubairu Mohammed of Life Camp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old car wash attendant, Samuel Emmanuel to six months imprisonment for stealing an i-Pad.

The court, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 as fine.

“I hope that this will serve as a deterrent to young men who are always tempted to take property that do not belong to them,’’ Mohammed said.

The second accused in the suit, 27 year old Hussein John, was discharged for want of diligent prosecution.

Both men, who are residents of Daki Biyu village, Abuja, had been arraigned in the court on a two count charge of joint act and theft.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Bitrus Audu, had told the court that the case was reported at the Life-Camp Police Station by one Sylvester Emmanuel on July 2.

“The complainant told the police that the two men stole the i-Pad from his car which he had contracted them to wash on July 1.

“He said that he informed them that his Samsung Galaxy i-Pad was in the car; only to discover it was missing when he came to collect the car,’’ the prosecutor had said.

He also told the court that the convict was arrested in Mararaba with the i-Pad in his possession.

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
