Businessman docked for fighting prostitute

A 33-year-old businessman, Moses John on Tuesday was arraigned in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with fighting a prostitute and a police officer.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that the accused committed the crime at the “Cashew Garden’’ in Lugbe on Jan. 25.

He said that the accused, a resident of Lugbe Zone 8, Abuja was said to have resisted arrest when the prostitute reported at the Lugbe Police Station.

The prosecutor also alleged that the accused fought the policeman, Mr Gabriel Alex, who went to arrest him.

“The accused went to the extent of tearing the uniform of the police officer,” he said.

Anigbo said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to have committed the crime.

He said that the accused committed the offence of criminal force and assault on a public servant who was performing his lawful duty.

He said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 267 of the Penal Code.

The accused denied the allegations, saying “it is not true’’.

Magistrate Aliyu Shafa granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the like sum, saying the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction.

Shafa adjourned the case to Jan. 31 for hearing. (NAN)
