The police on Tuesday arraigned one Innocent Chibuko,32, in a Mararaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Okoro, told the court that the matter was reported by one Oji Chuks, of Deidei FCT, at Sani Abacha Road Police Station, Mararaba.
Okoro said the accused of Crisis Park, Mararaba, sometimes in 2013, received ceiling boards valued N1million from Chuks, to help him sell and remit the said money.
He said that after the accused sold the ceiling, he refused to remit the money as agreed, rather converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor added that since then, the accused had been hiding, until he was caught and arrested by the police.
Okoro said during police investigation, the accused confessed to the crime, adding that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.
The accused counsel, Mr Moris Osakwe, prayed the court to grant his client bail.
Okoro objected to the bail application, stressing that bail is at the discretion of the court.
Chief Magistrate Habila Abundaga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum, who must also reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till Oct.17 for hearing. (NAN)
