The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke at the weekend said the four officers on escort of the recently robbed bullion van along Ondo-Akure expressway were on illegal mission.

Isaac, who disclosed this while parading 32 suspected criminals arrested for different offences, said nobody authorized the officers to escort the attacked Van.

He informed that the failure of the bank staff to follow the proper procedure by demanding for officers from the department of operation for escort makes the whole scene to look suspicious.

“We discovered that when they were rounded up, the officers and the bank officials carefully came down from the vehicle without any hurt. It is not possible in such operation for people to escape unhurt.

“They can’t be going on such a journey and the police would release such a few officers for escort. Those officers have acted illegally and the bank staff have also acted illegally”. Eke stated

The Police boss said the bank staff and the officers have been arrested to aid their investigation.

It would be recalled that the robbers allegedly carted away the money inside the van and also shot a middle aged man, who was coming from Ondo town.
