Buhari: Presidency disowns Okorocha, says President’s date of return uncertain

The presidency has countered a claim by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State that Muhammadu Buhari will return from London in two weeks.

Okorocha had said this after he led other governors to visit Buhari who has been in London since May.

Reacting on Tuesday, the presidency said there was not fixed date for Buhari’s return to Nigeria.

Punch quoted sources in the seat of power as saying even though Buhari’s health has improved, only his doctors can give a date for his eventual return.

“The president made it clear in his letter to the National Assembly that the duration of his stay in London would be determined by his doctor.

“That has not changed. He must get a clean bill of health before he returns,” the source said.

The report further quoted Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesperson, as confirming that the president will not be back so soon.

“I am not a doctor and even if I am, it is clear that I am not part of the team that is attending to the President.

“His date of return will be decided by that medical team.

“More meetings are coming; there will be broader ones. That Sunday meeting was just the beginning,” he said.

He also said the presidency is not worried about the legal actions seeking to compel the Federal Executive Council to declare Buhari incapacitated.

“We are in a democracy; it is their (plaintiffs’) right. The court will determine the case on its merit,” Adesina said.
