Kano State Police Command Thursday, foiled a robbery operation at the residence of the daughter of former Head of State, Hajiya Zainab Abacha, and arrested one of the suspects.
The robbery incident, which occured at 8.p.m. at her residence along Hospital road, Nassarawa quarters of the metropolis, was almost ending when the police arrived at the scene.
Sources at the residence said the robbers numbering about four stormed her residence and started shooting to scare the residents away.
It was gathered that the robbers, who had succeeded in depriving her of belongings in their attempt to escape, met strong resistance from the police leading to exchange of gun battle.
Police spokesman, ASP Auwal Umar, confirmed the incidence and said the police acted on a distress call which led to the arrest of one of the armed robbers who sustained a gun wound.
He explained that the police are on the trail of three other members of the gang who escaped from the gun duel. Umar, however, said the police succeeded in recovering one automatic pistol, 60 live ammunitions, one automatic gun and other valuables belongings to the victim.
Responding, the state governor, Mr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had commended the police for their prompt responses which led to the smashing of the robbery gang.
He admonished residents to always be security conscious and maintain the police distress number in case of any breach of security, stressing that security was a collective responsibility.
