Some aggrieved youth from adegbola street in Akure, the Ondo State Capital yesterday evening set ablaze a middle aged man suspected to be a lunatic for allegedly being in possession of two children.
The incident which occurred around 5:30pm, could not be prevented by the Police who were around the scene.
The suspect, whose identity is yet to be known was chased by the irate youth from Adegbola street to a popular Oyemekun road, opposite the Newspaper distribution centre in Akure before he was burnt.
A group of soldiers who rush to the scene watched helplessly as the mob vowed to wipe out kidnappers from the state.
Eyewitnesses said the mob became furious just because the man who was believed to be insane could not explained how he got the two children.
One of the eyewitnesses said the irate youths discovered that the suspect wore a neat T-shirt underneath.
In his reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incidents said victims of mob action were suffering from insanity and are not kidnappers.
He then warned members of the public to avoid jungle justice, saying anyone caught in the act of jungle justice would face the wrath of the law.
” it is improper for people to take laws into their hands, if they see anybody perpetrating any criminal act, they should report such person to the police and not to be beating or killing the person. Police will not hesitate to deal with anybody caught in the act of jungle justice ” Ogodo stated .
