Alleged killer of former Kwara Police Commissioner shot dead in Enugu


One of the suspected killers of the former Kwara State commissioner of police, Mr. Chinwike Asadu was on Thursday shot dead during a gun duel with the police in Enugu.

It could be recalled that Asadu was murdered two years ago few metres away from his private residence at Abakpa Nike Enugu.

The police spokesman in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu told DailyPost in a statement that the suspect identified as Friday, a.k.a. Mbala, has been on the wanted list of the operatives over his nefarious activities ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, amongst others within Abakpa and its environs.

According to Amaraizu, “the suspect identified as one Friday a.k.a. Mbala met his waterloo following a distress call received by the operatives that robbery was going on at about 9 pm.

“The incident led to exchange of fire between the daredevil suspect and the security operatives who overpowered him with their superior firepower, thereby leaving him fatally injured.

“He was later identified as Friday, a.k.a Mbala, who has been on the wanted list of the operatives over armed robbery, kidnapping, murder amongst other crime within Ogwuagor Abakpa and its environs.

“Notable amongst them are the alleged killings of late former Kwara State commissioner of police, some neighbourhood watch men at Ogwuagor Abakpa and its environs.

“Items recovered from the suspected daredevil hoodlum includes one locally made double barrel pistol with two cartridges”.

He added that in a bid to revive the suspect, he was rushed to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla in Enugu State, where he was later confirmed dead.

In a similar development, the police in the state have nabbed another suspect over his alleged involvement in a case of armed robbery.

The suspect, Ibeabuchi Ifeanyi, who hails from Isiekenesi in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, but resides in Abakpa Enugu State was nabbed by the police at Abakpa during their routine patrol.

Amaraizu stated that the “suspect was arrested with a blackberry and a Tecno phones, as he could not give satisfactory account.

“Pressed further by the operatives, the suspect revealed how he robbed the two phones from two separate victims in his two armed robbery outings within College Road Abakpa and its environs.

“According to him, he started robbery sometime in 2013 after he was allegedly robbed by some group of boys in Abakpa and that after the incident, he bought a rubber pistol from one barrow pusher at the rate of two hundred naira and repainted it to appear as a real pistol.

“He further disclosed that he has used it on three occasions which included where he robbed a someone of Tecno phone, second was the one he robbed another victim of a Blackberry phone and lastly was his encounter with a pastor.

“He said he also wanted to rob with his pistol before the pastor told him that he is a man of God and he allegedly knelt down to beg for forgiveness and that since then, he has not robbed again.

“He stated that before his arrest on 23/1/14 at Akubeze Street, Ogwuagor Abakpa, he had started feeling the guilt of his involvement in crime as the pastor whom he wanted to rob around December, 2013 admonished him to repent and turn a new leaf and that he was also touched by the pastor’s words.

Items recovered from the suspect include a rubber pistol and two phones.
