A wheel barrow pusher jailed for selling four year-old girl in Abia

A wheel barrow pusher man, Chigoziem Nwankwo has been jailed for six years and three months by the Chief Magistrate Court 3 in Umuahia North Magisterial District of Abia State for stealing and selling a four year old girl, Miss Rejoice Ibe for N6,000.

Nwankwo a native of Lokpa Ukwu of Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area,was said to have conspired with one Mr. Bashiru and stole a Nokia mobile telephone valued at N8000 and another Samsung telephone valued at N6, 000 belonging to a couple Mr. and Mrs. Sunday Ibe. During arrest, it was reported that Nwankwo was violent and consequently injured the victims. In a separate case, Chigoziem was said to have sold little Miss Ibe, to the victims for N6, 000.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate E.K.O. Umah said: Having considered the nature of the offences committed by the accused person and investigations conducted by the prosecuting officer, as well as the accused person admitting to the truth of the matter, the jail terms of six years imprisonment becomes imperative.

In a related development, Mr. Ndubuisi Nnamachi, 65, was remanded in prison for allegedly killing Mr. Nweke David by setting him on fire in conspiracy with Mr. Chisom Nkuche and Okechukwu David. This incident occurred on January 21 at Akirika Ukwu in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Looking into the case before his court, magistrate E.C.N. Kalu noted that the charge falls outside the jurisdiction of his court and ordered that the matter be transferred to a high court while the accused persons remain in prison custody.
