73-year-old man arrested for attempting to rape nine-year-old girl

Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 73-year-old man, Agidi Omolola, for allegedly attempting to defile his 9-year-old daughter in Ijare, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said Omolola was caught with the girl in his bedroom while making efforts to force the girl to bed.

It was learnt that the suspect had successfully removed the pant of the girl before he was caught after the victim shouted for help.

The suspect, according to sources, was caught by his eldest child, who later called the attention of the entire neighborhood to the incident.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Ijare Police Station where a team of detectives was mobilised to the residence of Omolola.

The suspect, on his arrest was moved to the police station where he was interrogated and subsequently detained.

While confirming the incident, the Ondo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Wole Ogodo, said the brother of the victim identified as Muyiwa reported the matter to the Police.

Ogodo, who described the incident as unfortunate, advised parents and guardians to take proper care of their children.

He also warned randy men to be careful or be ready to face full wrath of the law.
