For allegedly issuing a dud cheque of N2million to his landlord, a 63-year-old man, Seyi Omolade, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, Lagos.
Omolade who resides at 6, Segun Ogunnaike Street, Magodo GRA area of Lagos, is facing a count charge of fraud.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Roman Unuigbe, told the court that Omolade had issued a dud Skye Bank cheque to one Mrs Ngozi Uganeme, on March 15, 2012, being arrears of payment for rent, fully knowing that he had no money in the account. Hence, when she went to withdraw the money, the cheque was returned unpaid.
The defendant’s counsel, Mr Terry Adeniji, told the court that Omolade was a diabetic patience and that the issue before the court was a landlord and tenant matter, asking the court to grant the defendant bail in liberal terms because of his health condition.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under section 319 (b) sub section 320 of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2011.
When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However magistrate Mrs. O-Sule Hamzat granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
