49-year-old man remanded in prison over alleged murder

A 49-year-old man, Terkimbi Mbabou, of Agedam Community in the Gboko West Local Government Area of Benue State, was Wednesday, remanded in prison custody by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing one Luke Anyanwu during a fight.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Terzungwe Kajo, speaking in court, said the case was transferred from ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters, Gboko, to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Makurdi for investigation, noting that the accused was arrested during police investigation.

“The wife of the deceased, Mrs Theresa Anyanwu, had reported at the police station on 1 September that her husband was killed”, Kajo said, while quoting from the letter of transfer.

The police prosecutor said Theresa stated that on 29th August, the accused kicked her husband on the face during a fight and blood started gushing out of his mouth, adding that her husband was rushed to the General Hospital, Gboko but died while receiving treatment.

Kajo added that the plea of the accused was not taken for want of jurisdiction when the case came up for hearing.

He said Mbabou was charged with culpable homicide, punishable under Section 225 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004.

Mrs. Lillian Tsumba, the Court Magistrate, adjourned the matter to 28 October.

She, however, ordered that Mbabou be remanded at the Makurdi Prisons. .
