A 39-year-old man identified as Fabian from Taraku, a suburb of Gwer east local government area of Benue State was on Friday caught stealing yam from another man’s farm in Otada village, Otukpo local government area of the state.
Fabian admitted committing the crime and pleaded for forgiveness after he was arrested by members of the Otukpo vigilantee.
He said he committed the crime because there was no other way that his family could survive.
He claimed his family had nothing to eat for the past two days as a result of his inability to find a job due to the current economic crisis rocking the nation.
Members of his family came and resolved the issue and he was allowed to go home.
