A 35-year-old, Aliyu Mutairu, was on Tuesday charged with illegal possession of a live snake, charms and fake 237, 700 dollars at an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a three-count charge of felony, possession of criminal charms and fake currency.
The prosecutor, DSP Promise Akanwa told the court that the accused was caught with the items on Oct. 22 at 5.00 p.m. at Mobarajo Village, Ifewara near Ilesa in Osun.
According to him, Mutairu also had in his possession a box containing a live snake, black soap, white clothes, one black pot and two live ducks among others.
“In addition, 2,377 pieces of 100 dollar bills suspected to be fake with the same serial numbers were found on the accused which he intends to inject into the country’s economy.’’
Akanwa said the offences contravened Sections 160 (a), 213 (b) and 430 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
Counsel to Mutairu, Mr W.A. Idowu, urged the court to grant him bail.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also provide three years tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned to Dec. 12 for mention. (NAN)
