A 28-year-old man, Tolu Akinbode, who allegedly escaped from police custody, was on Wednesday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos.

An Ojo Magistrates’ Court said the accused should be kept behind bars until the next date of adjournment.

Magistrate Taslimi Shomade has fixed Nov. 28 for further hearing.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of escaping from police custody.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, told the court that the accused had on Oct. 7 at about 11.45 a.m. escaped from police custody at Ilemba House Police Station.

He said the offence contravened Section 106 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 106 (b) prescribes a two-year imprisonment for offenders. (NAN)
