For allegedly attempting to rob a woman of her valuables with a toy gun, a 25-year-old woman, Esther Obianuju, was on Monday arraigned before a Lagos high Court, Igbosere.

Obianuju is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted robbery.

The accused with an unknown address, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, W.A. Quadri, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 2, 2012, at 159A, Akerele Extension, Surulere, Lagos, at about 2.45pm.

He said that Obianuju, who was armed with a toy gun, conspired with others now at large and attempted to rob the complainant, Rukayat Abdulsalat, of her valuables.

Quadri, a state counsel, sought an adjournment to enable the prosecution to gather witnesses and evidence.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 296 and 298 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Sporgeon Ataene, counsel to the accused, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the court to consider it.

Justice Christopher Balogun, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case to June 11 for hearing of the bail application but fixed July 9 for the substantive criminal trial.
