An Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded 25-year-old Adeniji Ojo in Agodi Prisons over alleged rape of a 23-year-old woman.
The Chief Magistrate, Alhaja Fatima Badrudeen, ordered that the accused should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court did not take the plea of Ojo, whose address was not given.
The prosecutor, ASP Grace Akinsehinwa had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 2 at 2.00 p.m. at Sanusi Village, Idi-Ayunre in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He said Ojo met the woman on the farm and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The accused also assaulted the woman and tore her underwear before raping her, Akinsehinwa alleged.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The case was adjourned to Feb. 7 for mention. (NAN)
