25-year-old man remanded for robbing woman of N35,000 at gun point

An Asaba Magistrates Court on Thursday remanded a 25-year-old man, Fredrick Ikaka, in prison for robbery related offence.

The accused who committed the act on Dec 15, at Olu Street in Asaba is standing trial on a one-count charge of armed robbery.

According to the prosecutor, Sunday Igbigbi, Ikaka attacked one Mrs Joy Ogidi and dispossessed her of the sum of N35,000 and a blackberry cell phone at gunpoint.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to Section (6) (b), 1 (2) (a), of the Robbery and Firearms Act Cap 11 Vol 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

When the charge was read, Ikaka however pleaded not guilty but his plea was not taken.

The Magistrate, Queen Momoh, consequently ordered Ikaka to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case until July 20 for further hearing.
