14 remanded in Makurdi prison over killing of Ortom’s security aide

No fewer than fourteen persons were yesterday remanded in prison by the Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital over the killing of Senior Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Special Security, Denen Igbana.

They were charged for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and illegal possession of fire arms, punishable under Section 97,222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State and Section 3(1) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap.R.11 LFN 2004.

According to the prosecuting police officer, on 20th May, 2016, one Ephraim Tyover reported to the Police Station “D” Division Makurdi that Igbana was trailed to his house by unknown gunmen who opened gunfire on him and killed him.

The accused persons, including Ephraim Ianna, Dooshima Mtsor, Paul Ogbu, John Avine, Aondo Iortim, Washima Hyacinth, Terzungwe Shianondo, Aondofa Henen, Iortswam Aondover, Terna Asema, Ngutswen Igyungu, Anule Desmond, Tersoo Kase and Terdoo Torbee have been arrested in the course of investigation according to the first information report.

Further report by the prosecuting Police officer, Inspector Daniel Swende showed that Terwase Akwaza a.k.a Gana, Teryila Juga, Tor Abaji, Terunge Bea of various addresses were still at large.

No plea was taken as the court lacked jurisdiction.

His Worship, Theresa Wergba ordered that the accused persons be remanded at the Medium Security Prison Makurdi.

She, however, granted the application that the matter be transferred to Magistrate Court 1.

The matter was adjourned to 22nd August, 2016 for further mention.
