Zik’s first son, Chukwuma dies at 75

The Owelle of Onitsha, Chief Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe, is dead.

Chukwuma, who is the first son of first President of Nigeria, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe died on Sunday at the age of 75.

A family source hinted that he passed on at the Borommeo Hospital, Onitsha, a missionary hospital just a stone throw to his Inisi Onira country home, Onitsha in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the source, Chukwuma had been battling protracted respiratory ailment for some years, which had kept him out of public glare. Chukwuma until his death was the Owelle of Onitsha,a traditional position he inherited from his late father in 1996.

As Owelle, Chukwuma was sixth in the title ranking in Onitsha.

He had, in 1991, aspired to govern the old Anambra State and after that unsuccessful bid, he never contested for any other public office.

According to a Vanguard report, details about his funeral would be announced later in accordance with the Onitsha customs and tradition.
