Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has admitted he is “not proud” of the headbutt on Marco Materazzi, that led to his dismissal in the 2006 World Cup final.
Zidane, who was France captain at the time, was sent off after the incident during extra-time, which Italy went on to win on penalties.
It was his final game as a player, as he retired imemdiately after the tournament.
“I did not feel proud,” Zidane told Telefoot.
“I am not proud of this gesture — for all these young people, all these coaches, all those volunteers who make football a different thing.
“But it is part of my career, my life. It is one of those things that are not pleasant, we must accept, that we must digest.”
