The Minister for Interior, Mr. Abdulrahaman Dambazau, on Monday, stormed Shinkafi local government area on an assessment visit over rampant killings and kidnappings in the area.
Addressing newsmen at the Emir’s palace, the minister stated that with respect to the recent killings in the local government area, President Muhammadu Buhari sent him to the local government to console the Emir and the people of Shinkafi.
He assured that he would report all he had seen to the president, saying, “We will have alliance and regular meetings with stakeholders including the traditional leaders in the state, the president was very much concerned about the insecurity situation in the state.”
According to him, the President would instruct the chief of Army Staff to increase the deployment in the local government area to beef up security in the area.
“We cannot continue to live in fears even in our own country. This is the time to take the battle to their hideouts and dens, we would no longer tolerate the armed bandits any more,” Dambazau asserted.
In his speech, the chairman of Shinkafi local government council, Hon. Sank Galadi told the minister that just the day, armed bandits wrote a letter to the Shinkafi district head, telling him that they would be storming Shinkafi town in no distant time.
“Our people are now apprehensive as they hear the ugly news,” the chairman said.
Continuing, the council chairman explained that there are only 19 soldiers in the whole local government area, stressing that there are 98 communities in the whole local government and that all the villages are under the siege of armed bandits.
He lamented that the hideouts and dens of the armed bandits cannot be penetrated because the military does not have the kind of arms and ammunition the armed bandits are operating with.
“We are seriously in trouble and the problems are multi-dimensional,” he said.
DAILY POST can authoritatively report that for the past few months, the armed bandits have been focusing their attention on almost all the communities in the local government area.
