Zamfara: Parties react to Supreme Court ruling in favour of PDP, mocks Buhari, APC

The Secretariat of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has reacted to the nullification of elections of all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara State in the 2019 general elections.

Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesperson, in a statement on Friday, said the parties were excited about the Friday verdict of the Supreme Court.

It said they viewed the landmark judgment as historic, courageous and victory for democracy.

“We celebrate this Supreme Court judgment as it raises hope for Nigeria and its people to eventually be victorious over this tyrannical government”, it read.

“The violent and uncontrollable manner with which Muhammadu Buhari’s APC led government robbed the nation of their right will disintegrate with time and we are grateful that there are still people in the judiciary willing to do the right thing and defend the will of Nigerians.”

“Opposition Coalition also sends a congratulatory message to the new Governor-elect Dr Bello Muhammad Mutawalle, senators, reps and state assembly elects on PDP platform for the victory.

“The CUPP is, therefore, calling on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, to quickly withdraw the certificates of return issued to those APC candidates and issue them to the rightful owners in accordance with the verdict of the apex court without further delay.

“We are also calling on the President of the Court of Appeal to quickly disband the election petition tribunal sitting in Zamfara State because members’ jobs have ended. This is because with the declaration of new winners, the time allowed by the constitution for filing petition against the result has elapsed.

“Finally, we call on the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshimohole, to resign his position for leading the impunity that caused his party this huge loss.

“His unscrupulous behaviour and unnecessary interferences is what caused the mess that befell the APC and should resign and save himself and the party from further embarrassment.”
