Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central, has reacted to decision by Nigerian Government to suspend mining activities in Zamfara State.
The federal government through the acting IGP Adamu Mohammaed had on Sunday announced the suspension of mining activities in the state and threatened to revoke licenses of violators of the order.
The government also ordered all foreigners engaged in mining activities to leave the area within 48 hours as part of measures to check banditry in the state.
Reacting, Sani on his Twitter page commended the government over the new development.
However, Sani noted that the suspension of mining activities in Zamfara was not a solution to putting an end to banditry in the state.
He wrote: “Suspension of mining activities is a good step in ending illegal mining; but a non starter in ending banditry.
“The nation is at war; the moral, historical and constitutional calling at times like this is for the leadership to frontally rise to the occasion in defence of this republic.”
