Zamfara govt finally sacks Emir, district head over banditry

The Zamfara state government has finally sacked earlier suspended Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ibrahim, and the district head of Kanoma, Alhaji Ahmed Kanoma.

The two monarchs were suspended for allegedly being involved in armed banditry in their respective areas, for which their subjects protested to Governor Bello Muhammed Matawalle who immediately suspended the duo and setup a committee to investigate them.

According to a letter signed by the State deputy governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, the two monarchs were found guilty and that offences against them was discovered to be true.

Pointing out that their sack would serve as deterrent to other traditional leaders in the state, Gusau said, “We took this action following the outcome of a committee’s investigation set up by the state government to investigate some allegations leveled against them.”

DAILY POST recalls that both personalities were manhandled by their subjects a month ago in Kanoma town, with calls for their removal renting the air when Governor Matawalle paid a condolence visit to the families of 32 persons killed by bandits.

The protesters gave severe beatings to the two monarchs in the presence of the governor for allegedly conniving with bandits in carrying out their heinous activities and urged the Governor to remove them from office.

Matawalle immediately set up a committee to investigate the issue and after series of investigations, it was discovered that the two monarchs were guilty of the allegations.
