Zamfara assigns five academicians to write state’s history from scratch

Zamfara Government has drafted four professors and one doctor to put in a book form the history of the state from scratch to where it is now.

The state’s Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin-Magaji, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, on preparations to mark the 20 years anniversary of the state since its creation.

He said the professors would be led on the assignment by a professor of history at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and an indigene of the state, Prof. Kabir Suleiman.

The co-writers of the book were Prof. Mohammed Gusau, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, Prof. Tukur Adamu and Dr Bello Aliyu, the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF).

The commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the 20th Anniversary Publicity Sub-committee, said that the first edition of the book would be presented to the public on Saturday, Oct. 1., to coincide with the day Zamfara became a state 20 years ago.

He revealed that the state government inaugurated the writers of the book in realisation of the fact that there was no documented history of the state apart from the one written several years ago by Garba Duba.

Birnin-magaji said that during the book presentation, which would draw many Nigerians and other foreign friends of the state, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, would serve as father of the day.

NAN reports that Gusau, state capital, is currently wearing a new look following decorations and upgrading of some structures ahead of the 20th anniversary celebrations.

Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, is the current Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).
