Jos north of Plateau State on Sunday witnessed violence among some angry youth following their arrest by security operatives for burning two buses branded with President Goodluck Jonathan’s picture on Saturday evening.

Report says an uncompleted police outpost along Bauchi road was burnt down following the violence. A Hilux pick-up van being used by the Special Task Force (STF) of the State was also affected.

We learnt that members of the STF stormed Bauchi road on Sunday morning, and quickly moved to the spot where one of the buses was destroyed, arresting six youths.

The youths arrested, according to residents, and this led to a riot as the STF engaged the youths in shooting spree.

Normalcy has however returned to the area at about 1pm, when more security men were mobilized to the area..

The Media spokesperson of STF, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, disclosed that “In the process of rounding up youths who were involved in the breach of peace on Saturday, some other youths tried to create confusion by blocking the road and burning tires. An abandoned police outpost was torched, but we have been able to put off the fire and the situation is calm.”

He warned youths in the state to stay away from fomenting troubles in the State, especially as the general elections draw near, noting that the STF would deal with any of those attempting to take the laws into their hands in Plateau State.
