The Oyo State Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday advised the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state Mr. Seyi Makinde, to face the court case challenging his candidature in the March 2 gubernatorial election.
The party made this declaration in a statement e-mailed to DAILY POST by its Publicity Secretary, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde.
DAILY POST gathered that Makinde through his media aide, Prince Dotun Oyelade had in a statement issued on Sunday challenged Ajimobi to “as a matter of urgency confirm or deny that he is planning to transfer the ownership of the Ring Road hospital, Adeoyo to certain individuals who want to turn it into profitable business”.
Makinde said that “he does not care whether the buyers are the governor’s friends or business partners”, what is upper most on his mind is that “any property of the state must be held in trust for the greater good of the masses”.
He said that he was “worried that it appears that the same set of consortium who bidded to buy LAUTECH but were stopped by uproar from people of good will are now on the verge of possessing, through their Patriarch in Lagos, the largest State hospital in the old western region and charge exhorbitant fees which the common man cannot afford.”
But, Olatunde while reacting on behalf of APC, called on “Makinde and other candidates to remove the veil on their faces in order to see the true picture of things”, saying that “the electorates have shown that APC will continue to be their choice with the support daily being exhibited to the campaign train of the party and most importantly the heroic and warm reception accorded President Muhammad Buhari as well as other APC leaders during the presidential rally held at the Mapo hall on Saturday”.
Olatunde said that APC was not surprised by Makinde’s tantrums, noting that it was in the character of PDP to spill ill-logic of issues.
He explained that Makinde’s focus should be on the case at the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan challenging his emergence as the gubernatorial candidate of PDP instead of his constant ranting.
Olatunde urged Makinde to reflect on his political career in order not to delve into a lifetime of political failure, stressing that “it is not even certain if Makinde would fly the PDP flag in the March 2 gubernatorial election in the state”.
He said, “Makinde is too inconsequential in the politics of the state but we need to counsel him to stop displaying his immaturity and inexperience in politics and governance. His candidature is being challenged and at the end of the day he might not even be the authentic candidate of the party.
“We urge him to reflect on his political career as he is threading the path of political oblivion and there will not be salvation when he gets to that stage. Makinde should note that he cannot replicate the manipulation he perpetrated during the primary election of PDP.
“He is currently being challenged at the court for the involvement of non-members of the PDP that were recruited to participate in the election that produced him as the PDP flag bearer.”
