The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has accused Governor Simon Lalong of abandoning his constitutional duties and taking up a new role as a religious leader.
PDP said this in reaction to a directive by the governor, declaring every Friday of the week for prayer and fasting in government offices.
A statement on Monday by state publicity secretary, John Akans, noted that “The governor is sending wrong signals. He has abandoned his constitutional duties, and he is now taking up new roles as pastor/imam of Plateau.
“He is introducing religious worship in government offices to divert our people’s attention from his lack of vision and failures in administering the state, to worship in government offices.
“This is hypocrisy; the governor should be godly by leading by example especially in areas of transparency and accountability; and there will be good governance from where Plateau will develop.”
“He should not declare official sessions for prayers and fasting in government offices; instead, he should lead by utilizing the funds accruing to the state from various sources including the federal accounts, internal revenue base, and grants to meet the development aspirations of God’s children in Plateau,” he added.
