The Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, Monday ruled out the possibility of providing intra-campus buses for students.
This is also as he ruled out payment of promotion arrears to workers of the institution.
Ozumba disclosed this at the Enugu Campus of the University during a press briefing ahead of the UNN’s 55th Founders’ Day celebration.
He announced that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi would deliver the ‘Dignity of Man Lecture’ on Wednesday.
While answering questions on concerns raised by workers over promotion arrears, the Vice Chancellor said as a matter of the Federal Government’s policy, payment of promotion arrears was no longer obtainable.
On the issue of monetization, Ozumba said the University would make the fund available to the workers as soon as it was released by the Federal Government.
Speaking on his achievements so far in office, he disclosed that his administration had “pursued our plans, and we have recorded some mileages. “In pursuit of students’ welfare, we have boosted regular supply of water in our campuses by in our campuses by sinking boreholes to students’ hostels.
“We have been promoting and will continue to promote staff welfare. This administration has instituted various reward systems to motivate our academic staff to carry out impact based researches and scientific innovations and inventions”.
The Vice Chancellor, who equally stated that the University had made tremendous leap in rankings by moving to the 2nd in Nigeria and 13th in Africa, said two new faculties had been created.
He gave their names as the Faculties of Vocational Education and that of the Basic Medical Sciences.
