‘You misled us’ – Taraba APC governorship aspirants tell peace committee

Eight members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who participated in the party’s governorship primary election in Taraba State, have accused the reconciliation committee of misleading them.

The aspirants, who were invited to present their grievances to the party’s reconciliation committee sitting in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, complained that they were told the reconciliation committee would sit Thursday only for them to discover on getting to Yola that the meeting took place on Wednesday.

The aggrieved aspirants at a press conference in Yola on Thursday, said they were shocked when they arrived in the Adamawa state capital and met nobody at the venue.

Their spokesman, Mallam Marwan Aliyu Bacci, said, “We came from Taraba to Adamawa for the meeting but learnt that the committee sat at Banquet Hall in Government House Yola on Wednesday, November 28 instead of Thursday, November 29, as indicated on the official invitation card sent out to aggrieved aspirants.”

The APC Peace and Reconciliation Committee for the Northeast, with Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Al-Makura as the chairman, sat in Yola on Wednesday and attended to aggrieved APC members from Adamawa and Taraba states, with aggrieved House of Assembly and National Assembly aspirants from Taraba presenting their grievances to the committee, but the eight governorship aspirants insisted Thursday that the Al-Makura committee gave them a wrong date for the sitting.

The aspirants alleged that they were given Thursday as the date for the reconciliation committee meeting ‘as slated by the NWC’ and as stated in the invitation to the meeting and not Wednesday.

“The peace committee for the Northeast was lopsided to favor some aggrieved members especially from Taraba State,” they charged.

The eight aspirants were among the 10 who participated in the controversial APC governorship primary in Taraba State.

The eight, all of who were at the Thursday press briefing in Yola, were Sani Mahmood, Aliyu Umar, Ibrahim Abubakar, Umar Garba, Bobboi Kaigama, David Kente, Abraham Afukunyo and Kabiru Dodo.

Complaining that they had been put through avoidable stress, they appealed to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to fix a fresh date for them to present their grievances.
