“You can still be president”– What Mandela told Buhari

When the late South African hero, Nelson Madiba Mandela told Nigeria’s president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari that he can still rule Nigeria, the ex-soldier perhaps took it with a pinch of salt.

Prior to the 2003 presidential election where Gen. Buhari contested against the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party, APP Mandela in a one hour-chat with the Daura-born warlord reminded him that he (Mandela) spent 27 years inside the prison yard but later came out to spearhead the affairs of South African nation, saying that all hope was not lost for him.

“I spent 27 years in jail, yet I came out to become South Africa’s president. You can still be president,” Mandela, who died on December, 5 2013 had told Buhari, who won the just conducted presidential election.

Come May 29, Mandela’s prophecy will come to pass when Buhari takes the oath of office as the new President of the world’s most populous black nation on earth.
