The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr Mohammed Gazali, has said that the blast which rocked the Jimeta Police Station on Thursday, was caused by bombs recovered from Boko Haram insurgents. The Commissioner made the disclosure to newsmen in Yola, disclosing that most of those affected by the blast were policemen, adding that the recovered bomb exploded from the store used by the Police Command as warehouse for exhibits.
DAILY POST recalls that an explosion rocked a police station in Yola, the state capital, about mid day on Thursday.
Although there were speculations that the said blast was a Boko Haram attack, the Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Haruna Fura, disclosed to DAILY POST that the attack was not by Boko Haram insurgents.
He described what transpired as an armory explosion which immediately caused the building to erupt in flames, noting that the casualty figure cannot be immediately ascertained but that about nine critically injured persons have already been taken to the state Specialist Hospital for medical attention. He said the possibility of deaths being recorded from the incident cannot be ruled out.
Confirming the blast which has led to the closure of markets and schools in the area as residents scampered for safety, the Commissioner told newsmen that the explosion had also affected the walls of Majalisa Primary School where some pupils were injured. The pupils sustained minor injuries and have been treated and discharged from hospital.
“Policemen were mostly affected and the exact number of casualties cannot be ascertained now as the place is not yet safe for us to go in.”
