Senator Abba Bukar Ibrahim representing Yobe East Senatorial District, on Friday announced his retirement from Senate committees of which he is currently a member.
The lawmaker, who was a former governor of Yobe state, announced his retirement at the Senate Committee on Environment, which he is a member.
He explained that he was already tired of rendering active service to the nation in whatever capacity, but added that he was ready to offer advice to younger politicians who consult him on political issues.
While disclosing that he got a national honour of ‘CON’ as a result of his track records, the lawmaker said age is not on his side, adding that “he would cease to be a member of any Senate Committee with effect from the end of April 2019”.
“I will not contest election in future anymore because of my age. I have done my best for the country. I will cease to be a member of this Committee and other Committee from the end of April.
“Today is the last time I sit for Senate Committee on Environment and I say bye to all of you,” he said.
In his remark, the Chairman, Committee on Environment, Senator Magnus Abe commended Abba Ibrahim for his commitment to the fatherland.
Senator Ibrahim made the announcement in the presence of the Minister of State for Environment, Alhaji Jibrin Usman, who appeared with his officials for the 2019 budget defence.
