Yobe: Gov. Buni, traditional rulers meet behind closed-door [PHOTOS]

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Thursday held a meeting behind closed doors with traditional rulers from across the 14 emirates in the state, where issues of education and security were discussed.

The meeting, DAILY POST observed was the first of its kind between the governor and the state’s traditional rulers, though journalists were not allowed to take live feeds as they were excused out of the venue after taking pictures.

The royal fathers were led by the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa.

Though, it was not clear what formed the agenda of the meeting and the outcome of the meeting was not made public, DAILY POST, however, gathered that Governor Buni probably sought the support and cooperation of the royal fathers to fully implement policies and programs in the education sector of the state.

Buni had promised to deeply involve the traditional rulers in mobilizing their subjects to mitigate apathy and increase enrolment in primary and secondary schools following his recent declaration of emergency on education in the state.

The issue of security of lives and property also reportedly formed part of the meeting’s agenda in cognisance of the roles that the traditional institutions are playing in maintaining peace, security, laws and order in their respective domains.
