Yero commission projects in Southern Kaduna; to train more youths in energy sector

Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero today commissioned various completed projects in the Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone including roads and a general hospital.

In Kagarko Local Government Area, the Governor commissioned the Maraban Iddah-Iddah-Bwari Junction road, which was awarded in December 2013 by his administration and the main building and maternity unit of the Kagarko General Hospital.

The hospital was upgraded and equipped in partnership with the Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP), a non governmental organization.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Maraban Iddah 6.5 kilometer asphalt surface road, Yero said the project was conceived to ease transportation within communities along the axis as well as reduce travel time to Abuja from Kaduna.

He said “the importance of this road cannot be over- emphasized. It is already boosting socio-economic activities of this area. People and goods especially agricultural products can now be easily transported in and out of the Iddah market. This road also provides a short link to Bwari road, which subsequently links to Abuja and to Kagarko, the Local Government headquarters.”

The Governor said construction of the second phase of the road which would link Maraban Iddah to Bwari junction will soon commence adding that, “I wish to inform you that this administration has already given approval to process the award of contract for the completion of this road from the Bridge Area to meet the Jere-Bwari Road (1.96kms).

“The contract would be awarded before the end of the year to the same Contractor as a reciprocal gesture for their good track record of performance.”

He said his administration would henceforth only deal with contractors that were committed to investing resources in executing projects, saying some contractors had failed the state by showing lack of capacity to complete projects on schedule.

At the commissioning of the Kagarko General Hospital, Yero expressed appreciation to the CIHP which carried out renovation of the General Out Patient unit of the facility.

He expressed the commitment of the present administration to continue to partner with well meaning individuals and organisations towards providing people in the state with quality health services.

The Governor also commissioned Gidan Mana 5km Township roads in Kachia Local Government Area.

The road, which is interconnected within the town, has double coat surface dressing and drainages.

Yero also commissioned the Zonkwa-Yarvban 5.5kms road in Zangon Kataf Local Government.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Yero promised to commence second phase of the project stating that “I would like to re-iterate that this administration is committed to completing this Road to the end at Kamurun (16km).

“The second phase of the project from Yarbvan to Ayagan (3.0kms) including construction of a 2-span bridge has been given approval to process the contract by this administration and will be awarded before the end of the year.”

So far the Yero administration has completed eleven (11) of the road projects initiated by previous administrations, while two of the eight (8) roads awarded by the present administration have been completed.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has promised to provide skill training to more youths on power generation, transmission and distribution to increase their chances of gaining employment in the energy sector, the State Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero said Wednesday.

Speaking when he received youths trained by the state at the National Power Training Insititute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) on a courtesy call, the Governor said there was need to train more youths that would be employable as the energy sector was being transformed.

The State Government sponsored 33 youths to NAPTIN out of which 24 have graduated from the training Institute.

The tuition fee paid on each beneficiary was N750,000 while N200,000 was paid to each trainee as cost of upkeep after their graduation.

Yero said as university and polytechnic graduates, the gesture of allowing the graduates to have additional training to improve their skills and make them more relevant in the society was a fulfilled dream.

He stressed that the power sector was currently faced with manpower shortage, which provided opportunity for graduates with additional skills in the sector to gain employment.

In his presentation, the leader of the trained youths, Buhari Rabiu Tanko appreciated the state government for enrolling them into the training Institute.

The Federal Government had on Monday, offered automatic employment to all graduates of the training to bridge the existing manpower shortage in the power sector.
