The primary aim of forming the government as enshrined in section 14 (2) is to protect the lives and properties of its citizens. Provisions of infrastructures and other social amenities is secondary.
Also, the law establishing the Nigerian Army is to protect and defend the Nigerian integrity against internal or external aggression through terrestrial covens.
The same 1999 constituon empowers the Nigerian Air Force to protect and defend the Nigerian integrity against any aggression through the airways.
The Nigerian Navy is also empowered to protect the Nigerian integrity and corporate existence against any external aggression through the waterfronts.
In the case of Agatu LGA, both the Government, Army, Air force and Navy have failed the people.
Thousands of lives and multi million naira worth of properties are being destroyed in Agatu yet, the Governor of Benue and President of Nigeria all seem to be sleeping, dining and wining and travelling across the world.
The government, according to its role given by the constitution has failed and I pass a vote of no confidence on them.
One must appreciate the Nigerian Army but since the Chief of Army Staff visited Benue few months ago, they are no longer proactive. They only stay back at Ochigbudu and Obagaji while the Militias take over the surrounding villages.
The Nigerian Air force had hitherto maintained a landslide epoch ahead of the insurgents until yesterday when they closed their eyes and allowed a helicopter to hover on Agatu communities for a daylong, supplying ammunition and food materials to the marauders who are mostly from Niger Republic and Chad.
Do the Nigerian Air force want us to believe that a chopper would be threatening the collective peace of a people for a full day without them compassing it?
With my little knowledge, I was told that nothing flies on air without the knowledge of the Air force, except if it’s a bird.
The Chief of Air Staff will surely have more explanation to this because I’m not a professional. Idoma people demand an answer.
The Nigerian Navy has been the Chiefest of all disappointments as far as Agatu Mayhem is concerned.
We have always reminded Nigerians, and by extrapolations, the Navy that the Fulani Herdsmen have always used through the Loko-Oweto river to enter Agatu through Nasarawa state, using live and speed boats are equally Nigerians.
What has the Naval authority done concerning this revelation since 2013 when we raised the alarm?
Does that mean Nigeria does not have enough manpower to man the waterfront in Agatu?
I’m sure the Chief of Naval Staff would have a better explanation to this, after reading this piece.
Above all, what is the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Buhari and the Chief Security Officer of Benue State, Pastor Samuel Ortom saying concerning this continuous attacks on the good people of Benue State?
Should we now, therefore, pass a vote of no confidence on them and resort to self defense? Or we should rather remain silent and docile until death come knocking?
I don’t know!
