Yakubu Danladi emerges Kwara Assembly Speaker

A first-time lawmaker representing Ilesha-Gwanara Constituency in the Kwara North senatorial district, Yakubu Saliu Danladi, on Tuesday emerged the new Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The 34-year-old lawmaker was nominated by Hon Saheed Popoola, member representing Balogun-Ojomu Constituency of Offa Local Government Area while Hon Haliru Danbaba seconded it.

Danladi in his acceptance said he was offering himself for the service of the House and the state.

Hon. Popoola who also read the citation of the new speaker said Hon. Danladi was born on May 31, 1985 in Gwanara, Baruteen Local Government Area of Kwara state.

He attended BLGEA primary school, Gwanara from 1988-1993, and later proceeded to St Anthony Secondary school, Ilorin where he obtained his SSCE in 2001.

Danladi later attended Kaduna Polytechnic for his National and Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronics engineering from 2003-2008. He earned a B.Eng. in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in 2016, and served at the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna for his National service.

Danladi was a staff of the Federal University of Technology Minna until he voluntarily withdrew from service in 2018.

The new speaker has a vast leadership experience, having served as secretary, National Union of Baruteen students, Kaduna Polytechnic chapter for 2005/2006 session.

He was Secretary of the National Association of Kwara state students of the Kaduna Polytechnic chapter for 2007/2008 session and in 2011, he was the coordinator of Buhari campaign organisation under the CPC Kwara North Senatorial district.

In 2015, he was the youth coordinator for Engr Yinusa Yahaya campaign organisation under the PDP for Kwara North senatorial district, and in 2019, Danladi contested and won as a member of the state assembly representing Ilesha-Gwanara Constituency under the All Progressives Congress, APC, platform.

Similarly, at the inauguration ceremony, the member representing Oke-Ero Constituency, Hon. Raphael Adetiba was elected Deputy Speaker.

Clerk of the House who conducted the nomination exercise, immediately administered the oath of office on the new speaker and his deputy.

A member representing Ilorin Central, Hon Abubakar Mogaji Olawoyin was picked as the House leader, while Yusuf Ali Jimoh, Ilorin East was elected Chief Whip.

In his acceptance speech, Danladi who said he was offering himself for the service of the House and the state, observed that the 9th legislature came at a very challenging time but assured that the House would pursue constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking and defend the interest of the masses.

He congratulated the new members for a successful inauguration, thanking them for the confidence reposed in him and promised an open door policy.
